Project Overview: The project involved the refurbishment of two major storm water pump stations for NI Water at Portaferry Road and Comber Road in Newtownards, Co. Down, Northern Ireland. The underground and dated nature of the two sites made the project particularly challenging as old penstocks, pumps and heavy pipework had to be removed before installation of the new equipment. Each station had 4 No. pumps operating Duty/Assist/Assist/Standby

The flow rates at each site were:

Portaferry Road:
4 No. pumps rated at 677 l/s each
Capacity of 3 No. combined: 2031 l/s

Comber Road:
4 No. pumps rated at 833 l/s
Capacity of 3 No. combined: 2449 l/s

Scope of Work: The scheme consisted of 2 No. Pumping Stations each comprising of 4 No. 70-90kw Bedford Axial Flow Pumps and cannisters, MCCs, PLC/SCADA, 500KVA containerised Standby Generators, 600mm diameter pipework and valves.
